From an early age, Atanas, whose parents often talked to him about electrical engineering, wanted to make a career out of it. He worked hard and became serious about engineering and attended Louisiana State University and graduated in 2004 with a degree in Information Systems. After graduation he worked as a Network Engineer. In 2008, seeking to serve his community, he became a volunteer for the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). In 2011, he attended graduate school at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden. In 2013, he graduated with a degree in Computer Science and Engineering.
Today, Atanas works as a Network Systems Engineer in the Washington, DC Metropolitan Area and writes about the family financial independence journey and their life in general.
By living a simple and less expensive lifestyle, he has prospered as an investor, thanks to Vicki Robin, JL Collins, John C. Bogle, and Joel S. Moskowitz. Even though he doesn’t know it all, he shares everything he’s learned through this blog. Aside from skiing, playing soccer, riding, and traveling with his family, in his free time, he flies Sirrus SR20s and is currently working on his Professional Pilot’s License.
Atanas’ wife, Leslie is a graduate of University of Mississippi (Ole Miss). There she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. After teaching a few years in Memphis, TN, she moved to New York City. While in New York, she worked as an Equity Research Assistant, all the while, keeping her eye on her goal of becoming a Gemologist.
In 2003, Leslie graduated from GIA, with a degree in Graduate Diamonds. After spending a few years on Wall Street, and a few years on Diamond Row, she moved and settled down in the DC area with her husband Atanas.
Together, they have lived overseas and learned many new ways of living. Now, she is a stay-at-home mom to their three children. She and Atanas share the same goal of financial independence. And with that, Leslie has recently begun working from home as a Certified Health Coach. Being able to earn money and be at home with the kids full time, is a true win-win!
