By now you know that all of our investments are through the Vanguard Group. In this post, we are going to demonstrate how to open a personal investment account with Vanguard.
How To Set Up Your Account
Setting up an account with Vanguard is pretty straight forward process and can be done in a few easy steps.
1) Visit Site
Start by visiting The Vanguard Group website and click on personal investors under U.S. Sites.
2) Select and Fund Your Account
Click open your account, and you are going to see all available accounts Vanguard has to offer.
Click on open a new account button and select an option to fund your new account and click continue.
Next, you need to log into your account to continue, or if you do not have an account, select NO and click on continue. In this post I’m going to focus on creating Roth IRA account, with the understanding that you are NOT a registered user.
3) Open An Account
You are going to get redirected to Open an Account. Read the instructions on the screen and click continue.
Fill in all the information by following the prompts. Remember, you are creating this account based on your preference so there is no right or wrong selection.
3.1) Personal Information
3.2) Funding Your Account
Note, above I selected to reinvest my dividends and capital gains. Again, it is up to you to decide what you want to do with your gains. Conventional wisdoms tells me all gains should be reinvested. By doing so, you give your money the opportunity to grow quicker.
3.3) Review And Submit Your Application
Carefully review your application to make sure all the information you have entered are correct. Scroll to the bottom of the page and hit the submit button.
Keep in mind, you may be asked to print and mail in your application.
